From Nairobi Dominance to National Excellence: Our Chess Champions Conquer Mang'u!
Chess Team 2026The halls of our school are buzzing with pride following a historic performance at the National Chess Championship held at Mang'u High School. After a dominant and "starling" performance at the Nairobi Regionals—where our team emerged victorious—they took that momentum to the national stage and proved they belong among the country’s elite.
The competition, which concluded on Monday, April 6th, was a true test of mental fortitude. Our team displayed remarkable composure and strategic depth, proving that they are not just regional heavyweights, but national contenders.
The Perfect Run: Gianni Tuli’s Masterclass

Against a massive field of the finest players in Kenya, our students secured incredible rankings that speak to their dedication and skill.
Under 16 Category Special recognition goes to Gianni Tuli of Grade 10R. Following his perfect run at the regionals, Gianni continued his clinical form at the Nationals. Navigating 8 intense rounds, he finished with 6 points, securing an impressive 46th position out of 903 competitors. His performance was the engine that powered the junior team forward, proving he is one of the top young talents in the nation.
Under 18 Category In the senior ranks, the competition was equally fierce, and our players rose to the occasion. Peter Wambugu led the charge with an outstanding 6.5 points, earning a stellar 18th position out of 513 players. He was closely followed by Roy Njuguna, who secured 6 points to finish in 28th position. These high-ranking finishes ensured our school remains a formidable force on the national chess circuit.
The rest of the squad—Aiden Kumar, Alvin Nganga, Ayden Gathii, Junior Ndungu, Muhsin Rashid, Amber Abdulmalik, and Cyril Amani—all fought valiantly, contributing essential points and spirit to the team's overall success.
The Power Behind the Board

Success on the board is rarely achieved in isolation. Our champions were guided, encouraged, and meticulously prepared by two dedicated mentors who accompanied them throughout the grueling tournament:
Madam Ruth Moraa: Our able Patron, whose leadership and unwavering belief in the students have been the backbone of the club’s success.
Mr. Ezra Cheruiyot: Whose tactical insights and coaching sharpened the team’s competitive edge.
Their commitment to nurturing these young minds transformed a group of talented players into a cohesive, championship-winning unit.
A Legacy in the Making
As the team returns from Mang'u High School, they carry the respect of the entire national chess community. The National stage is where legends are made, and our players have firmly etched their names into that history.
"Chess is the struggle against the error." — Johannes Zukertort
