Mathematics is a compulsory subject as per KNEC requirements.  However, most students have a negative attitude towards the subject and lack pre-requisite skills in the subject.  As a department, we have put in place programmes and approaches to enable learners to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills.

Chemistry and Biology are compulsory subjects in Forms Three and Four, while Physics is offered as an optional subject. Instruction within the department is learner-centered, with emphasis on inquiry, practical work, and improved learning outcomes.

All teachers have undergone in-service training through CEMESTEA (SMASE Programme), ensuring effective curriculum delivery in line with national policy. The department is further supported by Subject Champions who work closely with KNEC to uphold curriculum and assessment standards.

In line with the Ministry of Education’s curriculum reforms, the department is transitioning from the 8-4-4 system to Competency-Based Education (CBE). With effect from January 2026, STEM will be offered at Grade 10, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to promote problem-solving, innovation, and career readiness.

The teachers also prepare learners for activities such as symposiums and science fairs, where our learners have performed fairly well.
