Amani Club Shines at National Debate Championships - 2025
The Amani Club of Hospital Hill High School has once again proven its excellence, this time on the debate stage. After a spirited performance at the county level, where they emerged as champions, the club proudly advanced to the National Debate Championships held at the prestigious Alliance High School.
The journey to the top began with rigorous training, countless hours of research, and unwavering teamwork. At the county level, Amani Club outshone other schools with their articulate arguments, confident delivery, and ability to tackle complex issues with clarity and conviction. Their win was not just a victory for the club but a statement of the intellectual calibre of Hospital Hill students.
Representing Nairobi County, the team proceeded to the Nationals, joining some of the best debaters from across the country. Hosted at Alliance High School, the event brought together bright minds from all corners of Kenya to engage in thought-provoking discourse on current affairs, policy, and social issues.
At the national level, the Amani Club members stood tall. They showcased not only their mastery of content but also discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship—values at the heart of their club’s mission. Though the competition was intense, the team maintained their composure and continued to impress adjudicators and audiences alike.
Speaking after the event, the club patron, Miss Ivy, expressed immense pride in the students' dedication and growth throughout the season. “These young men have demonstrated that with passion, preparation, and purpose, they can compete at the highest level,” she remarked.
The experience at the Nationals has not only raised the profile of Amani Club but also inspired other students at Hospital Hill High School to engage more actively in co-curricular activities, particularly those that promote peace, dialogue, and leadership.
As the club returns home with national exposure and valuable experience, their journey serves as a reminder that debates are more than competitions—they are platforms for shaping future leaders. The Amani Club continues to uphold its name by championing peace through intellectual engagement, critical thinking, and respectful discourse.
Congratulations to the Amani Club for their outstanding achievement and for making Hospital Hill High School proud!
AMANI CLUB CHAIRMAN (2024)
Amani Club has a vision to promote peace and an environmentally conscious society. With a mission to make the school a peaceful and environmentally conscious place, this club has created a greener, more sustainable environment which has been instrumental in enhancing the school's appearance.
As the chairman, I am proud to have led this wonderful club in realizing its dream. Through the guidance of our Patron Madam Ivy Chege and the support of the school administration, we have been able to plant grass and trees across the school. It has also been a leadership learning experience for my members and I
Our club has made significant milestones, including participating in peace debates up to the national level, which has strengthened our commitment to peaceful dialogue and problem-solving. In addition, we have successfully planted many trees within the school compound, contributing greatly to the school's natural beauty flora and fauna. This year, during the prize-giving, we were honored with the award for "Most Impactful Club of 2023," a recognition that celebrates our dedication and hard work.
Looking forward, I am hopeful that the Amani Club will continue to flourish and inspire others to join in our vision. May our efforts contribute to a better, greener, and more harmonious school environment for future generations.

OBJECTIVES OF AMANI CLUB (PEACE CLUB)

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has facilitated the establishment of Peace (Amani) Clubs in institutions of learning in Kenya. Amani Clubs were first established in 2014 to build a platform for social dialogue and dispute resolution, mediation, and entrenching peace education activities among youths in different schools in the country. This is in cognizance of the pivotal role the youth play in nation-building and their potential to make a difference in eliminating discrimination based on ethnicity and other traits that undermine cohesion and integration.
The Commission’s support for the establishment of Amani (Peace) Clubs is in partial fulfilment of Section 25 of the National Cohesion and Integration (NCI) Act, 2008, which outlines the objectives of the creation of the Commission, and in particular subsection (2) which provides that: Without prejudice to the generality of subsection (1), the Commission shall: (a) promote the elimination of all forms of discrimination based on ethnicity and race and (d) plan, supervise, coordinate and promote educational and training programmes to create public awareness, support and advancement of peace and harmony among ethnic communities and racial groups.

The goal of Amani (Peace) Clubs is to promote appreciation of diversity, peaceful co-existence, and dispute resolution among students. Amani Clubs are a suitable tool for arresting negative ethnic tendencies by providing young people with a platform to develop a culture of positive values and embrace personal responsibility. Amani Club members are expected to influence other youth, their communities and their parents thus causing a ripple effect in the promotion of national cohesion and integration. Additionally, the clubs enhance good character and self-discipline among the target group. Amani Clubs empower the youth to among other things, promote peace in their day-to-day lives through words and actions; deal with life’s challenges peacefully; and become responsible citizens.
Amani (Peace) Clubs engage in Annual National Essay writing competitions on topics related to peacebuilding, conflict resolution, management of diversity, national cohesion, and integration. Through Amani Clubs, young people are engaged in several programs and activities that value peace and develop peace-building skills. This enables the country to create a society of people who are tolerant and respectful to divergent views; able to dialogue instead of resulting to physical confrontations; able to stand against incitement to violence; able to reach out to others and co-exist peacefully; and able to engage in democratic processes peacefully and from an Amani Clubs help fight bullying, radicalization, and rivalry in schools.
